Octavio Dotel is a retired professional baseball pitcher from the Dominican Republic. He played 13 MLB teams, the second most teams played for by any player in the history. As of 2019, Octavio Dotel net worth is estimated to be $20 million.
Dotel was born on November 25, 1973, in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic. He graduated from Liceo Cansino Afuera in the Dominican Republic and was signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in 1993. For one year, he played in the minor league in the Dominican Summer League and was then promoted through the Mets minor league system for the next several seasons.
He made his first MLB debut on June 26, 1999, for the New York Mets but his team lost. His first MLB win came on July 1, 1999, against the Florida Marlins. He ended that season as the winning pitcher in the 1999 National League Championship Series game five against the Atlanta Braves.
In 2001, he was a regular starter but moved to the bullpen as the man for Billy Wagner. He had a brilliant season in 2002 as he led all relievers with 118 strikeouts and helped secure a well-reputed bullpen for the Astros at that time.
In 2004, Dotel was traded to the Oakland Athletics. He finished 2004 season with Athletics with a career-high 36 saves. He began 2005 season with Athletics but had a rough start as he underwent Tommy John Surgery ending his season after just 15 games.
Dotel then signed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees in 2005. He finished the season playing in 14 games with no record and an ERA of 10.80.
Dotel then went on to play for MLB teams like Kansas City Royals, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Toronto Blue Jays, and Detroit Tigers. On October 3, 2014, he announced his retirement at the age of 40 after pitching 15 seasons for 13 MLB teams.
During his time at MLB, Dotel won the 2011 World Series as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals. In 2013, he was a part of the World Baseball Classic champions. He is one of the few players in history to win both World Series and World Baseball Classic.
Regarding his personal life, Dotel is married to Massiel. In August 2019, Dotel and Luis Castillo were arrested on charges related to drug trafficking and money laundering operation.
