Reuben Foster is an American football linebacker who is now a free agent. He was drafted by San Francisco 49ers in the first round of 2017 NFL Draft.

Reuben Foster’s Career

Born on April 4, 1994, in Alabama, Foster moved to Georgia after his sixth grade. He attended Troup County High School where he played football. He got his nickname ‘freakish freshman’ after he had a magnificent performance against Columbus Carver. He ended his freshman season with 110 tackles and 112 as a sophomore.

He completed his high school with 185 tackles, including 34 tackles for loss and 18 sacks. After the controversy broke that he paid a football player to move from Alabama to Georgia in order to play for Troup, he announced his transfer to a high school for the senior season.

Foster moved back to his hometown Alabama and enrolled at Auburn High School in 2012. In his senior year at Auburn High, he recorded 80 tackles and two sacks helping his team to advance to the quarterfinals of the Class 6A playoffs. In 2013, he participated in the Under Armour All-America Game, where he earned Defensive MVP honor.

He played for the University of Alabama and he finished his sophomore season with 22 tackles including 11 solo stops, two tackles for loss and one sack. In his junior year, he recorded 73 total tackles, eight for a loss and two sacks. He finished his senior year with 115 tackles, 13 for losses and five sacks. Several media outlets like Sports Illustrated, USA Today, The Sporting News named him a midseason All-American that year.

Foster was drafted by San Francisco 49ers in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. On June 9, 2017, he signed a four-year, $9.03 million contract with $6.87 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $4.71 million. He made his debut against Carolina Panthers where he recorded three solo tackles and a deflected pass in a 23-3 loss. He recorded a season-high 14 combined tackles against Arizona Cardinals. Foster ended his rookie season with 72 combined tackles and a pass deflection in ten games.

On November 24, 2018, Foster was released by San Francisco 49ers after he was arrested on a domestic violence charge at a hotel in Tampa, Florida. He was charged with one count of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
