Worknesh Degefa is an Ethiopian long-distance runner. She made her name after winning the Boston Marathon in 2:23:31 h.
Degefa was born on October 28, 1990, which makes her 29 years old now. She first earned her name as a long distance runner on April 21, 2013, when she won the Yangzhou Jianzhen Half Marathon in just 1:08:43 h. Next year, she won two half marathons; Lisbon Half Marathon in time 1:08:46 h and Gothenburg Varvet in time 1:10:12 h.
She continued to win and came to first on the Prague Half Marathon in 1:07:14 h and two months later she again won the Gothenburg Varvet for the second time in a row in time 1:08:13 h. The same year, Degefa won the silver medal in the half marathon at the African Games in Brazzaville.
In November of 2016, she won the Delhi Half Marathon. Three months later, she made her debut on the marathon distance in Dubai and won in 2:22:36 h. She also won the Olomuc Half Marathon and finished second at World 10K Bangalore.
In 2018 Dubai Marathon, she came to fourth place. On April 15, 2019, Worknesh Degefa won the Boston Marathon in 2:23:31. Her opponent Edna Kiplagat of Kenya came on second with time 2:24:13 h while American Jordan Hasay became third with time 2:25:20 h.
