Who is Frenkie de Jong?
Frenkie de Jong is a Dutch footballer who plays for Ajax and the Netherlands national team as a central midfielder or sometimes a defender. He will join Spanish club FC Barcelona on July 1, 2019.
Early Life and Career
Born on May 12, 1997, in Arkel, Netherlands, De Jong played through the entire youth at Willem II. He made his Eredivise debut against ADO Den Hagg on May 10, 2015, two days before his 19th birthday. On August 22, 2015, Ajax bought him for €1 million on a four-year contract but he was loaned back to Willem II.
De Jong returned to Ajax in January 2016 and made 15 appearances in the 2015-16 Jupiler League. His talent was rising on the pitch and the next year, he was awarded 2016/17 Jupiler League’s ‘talent of the season’. He made 31 appearances where he scored 6 goals and recorded 8 assists. De Jong also played as a substitute in a Europa League Final against Manchester United in 2016/17.
Frenkie was mostly featured as a center back in 2017/18 season forming a formidable partnership with national teammate Matthijs de Ligt. But slowly by slowly, he was deployed as three-man center midfield. Currently, he is one of the rising talents and is considered a better player in Europe with the ball at his feet.
On January 23, 2019, FC Barcelona bought Frenkie de Jong on a five-year contract for a reported fee of €75 million, plus a further €11 million in possible add-ons. He will be playing with Barcelona from 2019 season.
On the national side, De Jong made his senior International debut against Peru. He has 5 national caps so far.

Mikky is a hockey player and made her debut for HC Den Bosch’s women’s team in 2015 aged just 17. She is de jong’s high school sweetheart.

According to several reports, De Jong will receive an annual salary of €10 million with €6 million in performance-based bonuses. This will make him one of the highest paid players at Barca, putting him in the same bracket to the likes of Luis Suarez and Philippe Coutinho.
